TULSA, Okla. – Illinois redshirt junior William Mroz advanced to the singles qualifiers at the ITA All-American Championships on Sunday in Tulsa, Okla.
Mroz won three consecutive singles matches in pre-qualifying action to earn a spot among 64 student-athletes in the qualifying round, which is set to begin Monday.
In the opening round of singles pre-qualifying play on Saturday, Mroz secured a straight-set victory over Auburn’s William Nolan, 6-4, 6-2. The win saw Mroz move on to the Round of 64, in which he faced his first seeded opponent of the competition.
Taking on No. 17-32 Nate Bonetto of Georgia Tech on Sunday morning, Mroz was unfazed by his opposition’s ranking, recording a dominant 6-2, 6-1 win to advance to the final stage of the pre-qualifying round.
Mroz earned a spot in the qualifying bracket with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph against Duke’s Oscar Brown on Sunday afternoon.
Sixty-four student-athletes will compete in the singles qualifying bracket, with 16 players advancing to the singles main draw on Wednesday.
