Michigan Men’s Tennis Announces Incoming Class

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — University of Michigan men’s tennis head coach Adam Steinberg announced Friday (June 16) the signings of Alex Cairo, Cyrus Mahjoob and Pat Schoen to National Letters of Intent.
Hailing from Dallas, Texas, Cairo is a formal five-star recruit who has played in four tournaments in 2023. Living part-time in Argentina, Cairo played on the futures circuit in South America. He went 5-4 in his nine matches, including appearances at the M15 Tabasco, M25 Xalapa and M15 Santo, winning four of his six matches on the clay courts.
A five-star recruit from Rockville, Md., Mahjoob is a No. 12 UTR, and ranked No. 28 by Tennis Recruiting and No. 38 on the Dunlop RPI list. He medaled in both singles and doubles at the 2022 USTA Easter Bowl 16s, taking second in doubles and third in singles. Majoob claimed fifth place in the 2022 USTA Clay Courts 18s and was a semifinalist in the 2023 ITA Fila International Junior Championship in Indian Wells, Calif. In addition, he is a two-time ITF J3 doubles finalist and a J4 singles finalist. Mahjoob compiled an 11-3 mark against other five-star recruits and was in the finals of three ITFs, once in singles and twice in doubles play and reached his highest ranking of 109. He trains at the Junior Tennis Champions Center in College Park, Md.
Schoen, a native of Zollikon, Switzerland, reached a No. 53 ranking in the ITF Junior Rankings this season. He is a seven-time Swiss Champion and has won six junior ITG singles titles and seven junior ITF doubles titles while playing on the national level and on junior teams for Switzerland. He has a 92-62 record in junior play and competed in both singles at doubles at the Australian Open and at the French Open.
