Miami Sweeps ACC Women's Tennis Weekly Awards


GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Miami swept the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Weekly awards with Daevenia Achong earning ACC Player of the Week honors and Mia Mack collecting her third ACC Freshman of the Week award.

Achong recorded an undefeated week in singles and doubles, earning two ranked wins as No. 13 Miami took down a top 10 conference foe No. 9 Virginia, 6-1, and swept No. 64 Virginia Tech, 7-0. On Court 2, the Geleen, Netherlands, native defeated Virginia’s No. 43 Julia Adams, 6-2, 6-1. Achong and her doubles partner, Maya Tahan, added another ranked win over No. 9 Elaine Chervinsky and Natasha Subhash, 6-3, on Court 1. Achong tallied two additional wins against the Hokies, taking a 6-0, 6-3 two-set singles victory and a 6-1 doubles win.

Mack went undefeated in both her singles and doubles matches to help lead the Hurricanes to their 2-0 weekend. At the No. 5 position, the Löchgau, Germany, native played to a hard-fought three-set 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 1-0 (10-6) victory against the Cavaliers and earned her second victory of the weekend, 6-2, 6-2, over the Hokies. On Court 3, the freshman and her partner, Audrey Boch-Collins, secured two wins over their opponents from Virginia, 6-1, and Virginia Tech, 6-2.
