STANFORD, Calif. – On an afternoon where hundreds of tennis rackets and bags were donated to Second Serve, which partnered with Stanford for the event, the men’s tennis program swept USC, 4-0, at Taube Family Tennis Center. The Cardinal improves to 8-4 this season and 2-0 this weekend with a combined score of 11-0.
The Cardinal quickly jumped ahead with the doubles point. Aryan Chaudhary and Harsh Hemang Parikh coasted to a 6-0 victory in the third position, while Max Basing and Nico Godsick picked up a 6-2 result of their own on the top court to give Stanford the early edge.
Stanford continued its strong play in singles, winning five first sets and two by a 6-0 score. Neel Rajesh gave Stanford a 2-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-3 win on court six while Nishesh Basavareddy rolled to a 6-0, 6-4 triumph on court one. Samir Banerjee clinched the match with a 7-6 (7), 6-4 result on court two, giving the Cardinal the win.
The win is the third for the Cardinal in the last four meetings with USC at Taube Family Tennis Center and Stanford’s first sweep of USC since April, 2003, when the Cardinal did it twice.
Stanford’s non-conference schedule is complete, and the Cardinal will open Pac-12 action on Friday, March 15 with a visit from Oregon. The first serve is set for 2 p.m.
