NASHVILLE, Tenn. – No. 26 Florida men’s tennis conquered the Vanderbilt Commodores in Nashville, 4-3, and completed a comeback victory for the first time this season after losing the doubles point on Saturday afternoon.
After winning the doubles point in the last three matches, Florida (8-7, 3-2 SEC) found themselves at an early disadvantage against Vanderbilt (5-10, 1-4 SEC). On court two, Nate Bonetto/Tanapatt Nirundorn were unable to find their footing against Nathan Cox/Michael Ross and were the first pair to drop, 6-1.
Both Florida pairs on court one and three were locked at four apiece with their Vanderbilt opponents looking to hold serve. At the top position, Jeremie Casabon/Siim Troost managed to break No. 18 Will Grant/Axel Nefve’s serve and won their service game to grab the doubles point for the Commodores. Jonah Braswell/Lukas Greif were leading 5-4 over Joubert Klopper/Macsen Sisam when the match went unfinished.
With the match being pushed indoors with only five courts available due to the cold weather, singles began with the first five players in the lineup.
The top three positions came into singles play on fire with No. 72 Grant leading the charge on court two against Klopper. After quickly grabbing the first set 6-3, the junior opened with a 3-0 lead in the second and his grasp on the match didn’t faulter, ultimately winning 6-1 and tying Vanderbilt at one apiece.
