The University of Tennessee’s women’s tennis program has recently welcomed two experienced and accomplished assistant coaches to its ranks, hailing from Argentina. Husband and wife, Matias Marin and Georgi Cravero bring a wealth of knowledge and diverse experiences to the team, adding a unique international flavor to the coaching staff.

Marin, the newly appointed Women’s Tennis Associate Head Coach, coaching journey is adorned with numerous certifications and awards, including being a USPTA Elite Professional and a certified mental coach.

“College was always in our mind to be a part of,” Marin said. “I think this was the right place in regards to everything. Alison Ojeda as a head coach, is an incredible human being and someone that you enjoy working with. Then the town of Knoxville is amazing, we have two little kids and it has been incredible and the university itself with how much they care about the sports with the support and all they are trying to do.”

Marin’s coaching prowess extends beyond the club scene, with notable appearances at the USTA National Coaches’ presentations and as a guest speaker at various tennis conventions. As a former top 50 ITF Juniors player and having played both in America and internationally, Marin brings a unique perspective to coaching.

“In the collegiate level it’s being a part of a team that changes everything,” Marin said. “Even if you’re playing by yourself, it’s a little bit bigger than just you. You represent the university, your teammates, your family and your coaches. For me, I think I found it a little more fun. You start sharing not just the tennis part, now your team has become family and now you are going to school together and traveling together and it just becomes more enjoyable.”

Georgi Cravero, an Elite Professional certified by USPTA, joins the coaching staff with an impressive playing career that includes achievements in both singles and doubles on the WTA Tour. With 15 singles titles and 33 doubles titles in ITF Futures & Challengers, Cravero’s competitive spirit and success on the court are undeniable.

As the Under 12 Director at Racquet and Health Club – Tucker Tennis Academy, Cravero has been shaping the next generation of tennis talents. Her coaching journey was sparked by serving as the Argentinean and South American team captain during the Junior World Cup in the Czech Republic and the European Junior Tour.
