TULSA, Okla. – Junior Connor Krug wrapped up action in the pre-qualifying round of the ITA All-American Championships, after falling to Luc Koenig of Baylor in the round of 32 on Sunday. Despite the loss, Krug will advance to the qualifying round and face Cleve Harper of Texas at 11:30 a.m. Monday.
Krug opened the day with a convincing win over Leighton Allen of Oklahoma State in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. He then advanced to face Koenig in the final round, but ultimately dropped in a 6-2, 6-4 decision.
After dropping his opening match, junior Jake Krug continued in the consolation bracket Sunday where he met Danijal Muminovic of UTSA. Muminovic took the first set, 6-4, before Krug fought back to earn a 7-5 victory in the second set. It came down to a tiebreaker in the final set, but Muminovic bested Krug, 7-6 (7) in the end.
Graduate students Michael Heller and Andrew Zhang open action in the qualifying singles round on Monday. Heller faces Jorge Plans Gonzalez of UCLA at 10:30 a.m., while Zhang goes up against Vanderbilt’s Joubert Klopper at 11 a.m.
Connor Krug and sophomore Pedro Rodenas also kick off the doubles competition Monday, facing Kenta Miyoshi and Alex Petrov of Illinois in the qualifying round at 1:30 p.m.
