CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illinois men’s tennis alumnus Aleksandar Kovacevic has won the $130,000 ATP Challenger in Shenzhen, China to capture his third Challenger victory in 2023.
No. 117-ranked Kovacevic picked up the win after his 7-6(4), 7-6(5) sweep over No. 86-ranked Nuno Borges of Portugal.
The 25-year-old started the year winning the $80,000 ATP Challenger in Cleveland, Ohio where he beat Yibing Wu 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (2). His second win of the year came in February when he won the $80,000 ATP Challenger in Waco, Texas, beating Alexandre Muller, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.
Kovacevic is planning to compete in the Champaign ATP Challenger Atkins Tennis Center is hosting Nov. 13-19.
