Jovanovic Tabbed SEC Freshman of the Week

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State’s Petar Jovanovic was selected as the SEC Freshman of the Week on Wednesday following his highly successful start to the season.

Jovanovic, ranked No. 107th in the ITA standings, is off to a 4-0 start in singles during dual match play and is riding a seven-match winning streak that dates back to the fall. Three of his wins have come at the No. 2 position and has another victory at the top spot.

The native of Podgorica, Montenegro earned a ranked win over No. 109 Francisco Rocha of Middle Tennessee State 6-7(6), 6-4, 1-0(4-1 def. [mc]) last Sunday and also clinched matches against both South Alabama and Tennessee State for the undefeated Bulldogs.

Jovanovic has also posted a 2-1 doubles record alongside partner Gregor Ramskogler and clinched the doubles point in matches against East Tennessee State and South Alabama.

The 6-foot-4 Jovanovic is 10-2 overall in singles to start his college career and is the first MSU player to earn SEC Freshman of the Week since Alberto Colas on March 11, 2020.

Jovanovic and the Bulldogs will be back in action against SMU on Friday at 10 a.m. as the Bulldogs participate in ITA Kickoff Weekend in Gainesville, Florida.
