TUCSON, Ariz. – College Sports Communicators released their 2023 Academic All-District Men’s Tennis team with Jonas Ziverts and Gustaf Strom recognized as two of the nation’s top student-athletes. Both coming from Sweden, Ziverts from Solna and Strom from Stockholm, the two Wildcats study at the University of Arizona’s prestigious Eller College of Management. The international pair helped guide the team to back-to-back Pac-12 regular season championships and their third ever Sweet 16 appearance.
Ziverts, who was named the 2023 Pac-12 Scholar Athlete of the Year, is studying Economics and the fifth-year captain is on track to graduate summa cum laude this Thursday, May 11 with a 3.78 GPA. The 4x Pac-12 Player of the Week and 3x NCAA Individual qualifier has a full shelf of academic and athletic accolades which include the ITA Southwest Rookie of the Year (2019), Pac-12 Honor Roll (2019, 2021, 2022), All-Pac-12 Second Team (2019, 2021), ITA Scholar-Athlete (2022), and All-Pac-12 First Team (2023).
Strom is a Pre-Business major at Eller carrying a 3.59 GPA and currently leads the team in dual singles wins with an impressive record of 19-2. The Swede has racked up a multitude of athletic and scholarly awards in his three seasons at Arizona. During his debut season at Arizona in 2021, Strom was named ITA Southwest Rookie of the Year, Pac-12 Rookie of the Year and All-Pac-12 First Team. Last spring Strom made All-Pac-12 Second Team and earned an ITA Scholar-Athlete recogniton. He is also a 2x qualifier for the NCAA Individual tournament and a one-time recipient of the Pac-12 Player of the Week (2023).
Ziverts and Strom helped guide the team to back-to-back Pac-12 regular season championships and their third ever Sweet 16 appearance. Due to their outstanding performances on the court and inside the classroom, the two Academic All-District Wildcats are eligible for a CSC Academic All-American honor which will be announced on Wednesday, May 31.
