Jackets Sweep Georgia State, 7-0 – Women's Tennis — Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

THE FLATS – No. 25 Georgia Tech women’s tennis opened its home slate on Friday afternoon with a 7-0 triumph over Georgia State. The match, played outdoors at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex, pushed Tech to 1-0 on the young season.

Doubles
It took Georgia Tech less than 30 minutes to capture the doubles point against Georgia State. Tech’s Carol Lee and Kate Sharabura wrapped things up first on court one, cruising to a 6-0 decision against Georgia State’s Eva Chivu and Pragnya Kumar. The point was clinched on court two when Kylie Bilchev and Alejandra Cruz did not drop a game against Michelle Ncube and Ellie Aldrich, collecting a 6-0 decision. Court three between Mahak Jain and Ruth Marsh and Alexia Alvarez and Maria Paredes was suspended at 3-3 when the point was clinched.

Singles
Competing at the top singles spot, Lee put the Jackets up 2-0 with a straight-set win over Chivu, 6-0, 6-3, minutes before Cruz secured a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Kumar on court four, setting up a 3-0 score.

Jain clinched the victory from court three, pocketing a 6-1, 6-3, decision over Maria Paredes. Jain took a 5-0 lead in the first set before sealing the set, 6-1. The opponents stood knotted at 2-all in the second set before Jain took a 4-2 lead and clinched the match, 6-3.

Courts five and six finished seconds later as Ava Hrastar dropped Alexia Alvarez, 6-2, 6-2, and Rosie Garcia Gross topped Aldrich, 6-1, 6-2, on court six. Competing on court five, Hrastar gained momentum early in the match, winning the opening set, 6-2, and racing out to a 4-1 lead in the second before sealing the victory. Garcia Gross went up 5-0 in the first set and took the set lead, 6-1. The Jacket was on serve at 2-2 in the second set with Aldrich before winning the next four games for the match.

Bilchev completed the sweep on court two, collecting a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Ncube. Bilchev trailed 4-5 in the first set before winning three-straight games to pull out the opening set, 7-5. The Jacket dominated the second set, 6-1, to conclude the match.

Georgia Tech returns to the courts at the ITA Kickoff Weekend, hosted by Cal, Jan. 27-28.
