CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illinois women’s tennis outgoing senior Ashley Yeah has been named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Senior Player of the Year in the Midwest Region, the organization announced Tuesday.

Yeah held down the No. 2 singles spot for the Orange and Blue before moving up to the No. 1 slot when a teammate suffered an injury while bouncing between the No. 2 and 3 doubles courts. The Los Gatos, Calif., native tallied a 17-14 overall singles record including a 3-5 mark against nationally ranked opposition. Yeah was ranked as high as No. 70, spending her whole senior campaign in the ITA singles rankings. On the doubles courts, Yeah teamed up with five different teammates to compile a 12-12 record.

In the fall, she picked up ranked wins over No. 35 and No. 67 slated opponents before earning a dual win over No. 30 Jaedan Brown of Michigan this spring.

Yeah helped the Illini win the doubles point in the NCAA Tournament by working with teammate Josie Frazier to take down the No. 55-ranked doubles tandem from Florida State.

Additionally, Yeah was named a Big Ten All-Conference performer for her body of work across her senior campaign.

Yeah joins Cynthya Goulet as the only Illini in program history to be named the ITA Midwest Region Senior Player of the Year. Goulet was recognized with the honor following the 2004-05 season.
