Irina Cantos Siemers Earns Second All-America Honor – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – For the second year in a row, Irina Cantos Siemers of the Ohio State women’s tennis team has earned ITA All-America accolades in singles. A native of Bremerhaven, Germany, Cantos Siemers is just the second two-time singles All-American in Buckeye history.

In 2022, Cantos Siemers earned All-America accolades when she was named a No. 9-16 seed for the NCAA singles championship. She also finished the year ranked 16th. Student-athletes that earn a Top 16 seed in the NCAA singles championship, advance to the round of 16 at the NCAA Championship or finish in the Top 20 of the final ITA singles rankings are named All-Americans by the ITA. She is the only player from the Big Ten to earn All-America laurels this year.

Cantos Siemers was ranked in the singles Top 16 all season, reaching a high of No. 4 March 9. She is the second-highest ranked singles player in program history, behind only Francesca Di Lorenzo, who reached as high as No. 1 in 2017 (and is the other two-time singles All-American).

She was a unanimous First Team All-Big Ten selection, her second all-conference honor, and earned the Big Ten’s automatic berth into both the NCAA singles and doubles (with Sydni Ratliff) championships as the highest ranked player and doubles team in the conference. Cantos Siemers is the sixth Buckeye to earn a spot in the NCAA singles championship, just the second to be a Top 16 seed, and is one of four to compete in the singles tournament multiple times. She is also one of six Buckeyes all-time to participate in both the singles and doubles championships.

Cantos Siemers was 34-10 in singles overall on the year, the fifth-most wins in a single season for a Buckeye. She notched a 19-4 dual record and 10-0 mark in Big Ten regular season play. In the fall she was the ITA Midwest Regional singles runner-up and reached the semifinals at the ITA Fall National Championships.

The communication major also earned Academic All-Big Ten and Ohio State Scholar-Athlete accolades in 2022.
