CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illinois men’s tennis is set to compete against Toledo in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday, May 3, at 12 p.m. CT at the Boone Tennis Complex in Lexington, Ky.
With a win, Illinois would move on to play either DePaul or No. 5 seed and host Kentucky at 1 p.m. CT on Saturday.
History
Illinois competed against Toledo earlier in the year, defeating the Rockets, 4-0, on Jan. 20 at Atkins Tennis Center.
The Illini also played Kentucky on Jan. 20 following the Toledo match, but Illinois lost to the Wildcats, 4-3.
The win in January put the Illini up 5-0 over Toledo all-time. The first meeting dates back to 1965 in Chapel Hill, N.C., where Illinois won, 6-3. The next meeting between the two teams did not happen again until 2008, with the Illini picking up a 6-1 victory.
Scouting Report
The Rockets are on a six-match winning streak, including victories over Northern Illinois (4-0) and Western Michigan (4-1) to win the Mid-American Conference Championships.
Toledo has Pawit Sornlaksup in the ITA Singles Rankings, coming in at No. 68. As a team, Toledo is not ranked in the ITA Rankings and earned an automatic playoff berth by winning the MAC Championships.
