Lincoln, Neb. – The No. 71 Nebraska women’s tennis team (13-5, 2-3 Big Ten) fell to No. 47 Purdue (12-5, 3-3 Big Ten) 4-1 at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.
The action began with doubles play. In the No. 3 position, the team of Lucy Loy and Anfisa Danilchenko dropped their match against Csilla Fodor and Carmen Gallardo Guevara, 6-0. In the No. 2 spot, the duo of Ana Carmen Zamburek and Isabel Adrover Gallego bested Juana Larranaga and Kennedy Gibbs, 6-1. The deciding match in doubles played out on Court 1. Samantha Alicea and Raphaëlle Lacasse dropped their first match as a team against Purdue’s Liz Norman and Tara Katarina Milic, 6-3, rewarding Purdue with the doubles point. .
With Nebraska down by one, singles play began. In the No. 2 spot, Carmen Zamburek fell to Fodor, 6-1, 6-2. On Court 3, Alicea got the first point for the Huskers when she defeated Gallardo Guevara, 6-4, 6-3. In the No. 5 position, Lacasse lost to Katarina Milic, 6-3, 6-4. Purdue clinched the match on Court 4 when Danilchenko was bested by Gibbs in three sets, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. The matches on Courts 1 and 6 went unfinished.
