Hernandez, Malesevic Travel To Tallahassee

TALLAHASSEE, Fla., – Mississippi State’s Carles Hernandez and Nemanja Malesevic look to continue their impressive play of late at the ITF Tallahassee 15K beginning on Monday.

Hernandez and Malesevic are coming off a strong showing at the ITA Southern Regional in Tuscaloosa, Alabama last week that saw each of them reach the semifinals in both singles and doubles. Malesevic finished as the tournament runner-up in singles and qualified for the ITA Fall National Championships next month in San Diego, California.

“I like when I have tournaments in a row, especially after a good week,” Malesevic said. “It’s easier to get going than if I have a break for a week, you just kind of lose some confidence and momentum. I’d had a tough fall but I just kept my head down and kept working and it’s really good to see that it’s paying off.”

Hernandez will start things off Monday in the first round of singles qualifying. The junior from Spain will play against Niklas von Hellens of Belmont the third match of the day on Court 1 approximately around noon.

Malesevic, ranked 52nd in the fall ITA standings, meets 17-year-old Santiago Padillo Cote of Mexico in the final match of the day on Court 5 around 3 p.m.

“I’m really looking forward to this week,” Malesevic said. “Going there with Carles is good because we’re really close and are helping each other a lot on and off the court. I’m really excited to go and see how much we can do. He’s also had a good week.”

The ITF Tallahassee 15K is a weeklong event with the finals scheduled for Oct. 30 and will be played on the campus of Florida State.
