Herman Hoeyeraal Claims Pac-12 Player of the Week


SAN FRANCISCO – Pac-12 has named Herman Hoeyeraal Player of the Week after going four for four in his matches against #41 Oklahoma on Friday, March 6 and #55 Tulsa on Wed., March 8. The honor marks the first in Hoeyeraal’s career and the third for the team so far this spring. 

In a stacked match against OU, #97 Hoeyeraal defeated #71 Nathan Han in straight sets 6-4, 6-1 at four singles, giving the Sooner his second loss of the season. The Wildcat then went on to beat Volodymyr Zakharov (TLS) in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 4 lineup spot. 

The junior from Oslo, Norway won both of his doubles matches with fellow junior Gustaf Strom, who was awarded Pac-12 POW for his first time on Feb. 12. The pair managed to finish first at two doubles in the matches against OU and Tulsa, where Arizona won the doubles point in each. They defeated Alex Martinez and Luis Alvarez (OU) 6-3 then Daniel Siddall and Timothy Seger (TLS) 6-3. 

Hoeyeraal is now 8-4 in singles and 5-3 in doubles. His victories helped the team improve their away record to 3-2 and the overall record to 12-3. The #15 Wildcats head to California this weekend to open Pac-12 against #24 Stanford on Friday, March 17 at 2 p.m., and #33 Cal on Sunday, March 19 at 2 p.m. in Berkeley.
