Gators Freshmen Punch Tickets to ITA All-American Main Draw

TULSA, Okla. – Jonah Braswell continued to roll through competition and completed his run all the way from pre-qualifying to advance to the singles main draw, while Tanapatt Nirundorn and Togan Tokac battled their way through qualifying to progress to the doubles main draw at the ITA Men’s All-American Championships on Tuesday.
 
Fresh off his four straight victories in the pre-qualifying, Braswell tallied three more wins in the qualifying to clinch his spot in the singles main draw. The freshman’s first match on Monday looked to be his toughest test as he took on No. 52 Nemanja Malesevic of Mississippi State. Braswell handled the SEC-foe with ease, 6-2, 6-4, for his first ranked win of his young career.

The Sarasota, Fla. native sustained his dominance on Tuesday starting with beating Northwestern’s Trice Pickens, 6-4, 6-4. One more SEC-opponent stood in Braswell’s way to the main draw with a final match against Ole Miss’ John Hallquist Lithen. The moment wasn’t too big for Braswell as he comfortably defeated Hallquist Lithen, 6-0, 6-3.

 

Nirundorn and Tokac also proved they’re ready for the college scene. The freshmen pair began their run through qualifying on Monday with a ranked matchup with No. 26 Robin Catry and Luca Staeheli from North Carolina State. The two went to a tiebreak in both sets, but took care of his business for their first ranked win together, 7-6 (7), 7-6 (10). The pair followed the win up with their second victory of the day by defeating Baylor’s Tadeas Paroulek and Zsombor Velcz, 7-5, 1-6, 10-4.

Another ranked-duo stood in Nirundorn and Tokac’s way to the main draw on Tuesday as they battled No. 46 Lukas Engelhardt and Nikola Slavic from Ole Miss. Despite going down 6-1 in the first set, the Gator freshmen didn’t lose confidence and won the second set 6-4 to set up a final tiebreak for the match. Nirundorn and Tokac were in complete control the entire tiebreak winning 10-1.

 

No. 91 Nate Bonetto reached the final round of qualifying singles after defeating both Holden Koons from James Madison and No. 84 Justin Boulais from Ohio State in straight sets. The sophomore met Duke’s Pedro Rodenas in a match that went the distance, but fell 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
