Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina women’s tennis completed the first day of play at the Gamecock Shootout, winning two doubles matches and one singles match.
The Gamecocks got off to a slow start on the day in their first doubles session with all three pairs falling. They were able to get back on track in the second doubles session though, winning two out of three of their matches. Allie Gretkowski and Ana Cruz won their match 8-3 while McKenna Schaefbauer and Elise Mills won theirs 8-4.
In singles, Cruz earned the lone singles win of the day, taking down Washington’s Jennifer Kerr in straight sets, 6-3. 6-3.
South Carolina will continue play on Saturday with one round of singles, followed by one round of doubles beginning at 9 a.m. Admission is free and open to the public. Matchups and final scores will be made available on the tournament webpage.
