PALO ALTO, Calif. – The Florida State women’s tennis team fell to No. 7 Stanford 4-0 in the winner’s bracket at the ITA Kickoff Weekend on Saturday.
The day began with a two-hour delay to the matches due to court conditions and after the consolation bracket, the Seminoles and Cardinal were able to take the court.
Florida State won at No. 2 doubles where Kianah Motosono and Ellie Schoppe claimed a 6-3 victory.
The Cardinal entered singles with a 1-0 lead and just needed three wins to secure the victory. The match came to a stop when Stanford won at No. 2, No. 5 and No. 1.
Despite the loss, the Seminoles were able to keep the match close. Alice Amendola won her first set 6-2 and was leading 5-4 at No. 6 when the match was decided. Schoppe won her first set at No. 2 and Olympe Lancelot was tied 2-2 in her second set at No. 4.
Florida State returns to action at home on Sunday, February 5, against North Florida. Admission to matches at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center is free.
