The Nebraska men’s tennis team is sending seniors Calvin Mueller and Anton Shepp, as well as juniors Leo Linquet and Joan Torres Espinosa to Tulsa, Okla., to open the Fall 2024 season. The four Huskers, three of which are ranked, will take on the ITA All-American Championships running from September 21-29. The tournament will produce 10 NCAA Singles Qualifiers and four NCAA Doubles Qualifiers.
Linquet and Shepp will begin play on Sept. 21 in the prequalifying round, while Torres Espinosa starts in the qualifying round on Sept. 23. Mueller will take on the main draw on Sept. 25.
The tournament will host 128 pre-qualifying singles spots, 64 qualifying and 64 in the main draw. On the doubles side, 32 duos will compete in pre-qualifying, qualifying and main draw rounds. Representing the Big Red includes returning letterwinners Linquet, Mueller and Shepp. Linquet had a strong finish to the 2024 spring season, going 5-1 in conference play. All-Big Ten First Team member Mueller earned a preseason ranking of No. 31, after tallying 27 singles wins last spring and claiming the No. 5 spot in program history for most singles wins in a season. Shepp, ranked No. 114 preseason, went 11-3 on Court 2 last spring. In his NU debut, Torres Espinosa, ranked No. 63 preseason, joins the Big Red from UT-Arlington. Mueller and Shepp also appear in the doubles preseason rankings at No. 34.
The tournament is being held at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center, and main draw play begins on Wednesday, Sept. 25. Live stats and live streaming will be available, linked on Huskers.com.
