Dominic Thiem has received a wild card into the main draw at the BNP Paribas Open. The Austrian, who defeated Roger Federer in the final in 2019, will return for the first time since hoisting the trophy four years ago.

“It’s unbelievable news for me,” said Thiem. “It’s a tournament I love and it’s going to be the first time I’ve played there since I won the tournament in 2019.”

Thiem, who is currently playing in Buenos Aires this week, is ranked 99. He has struggled to raise his ranking since returning to the tour after battling wrist and hand injuries in 2021 and early 2022. The 29-year-old, a former World No.3 is 13-5 lifetime at Indian Wells in six appearances.
