Fishback falls in second round, doubles delayed on Tuesday at NCAAs

ORLANDO, Fla. – Virginia Tech’s Ryan Fishback (No. 47) fell to Michigan’s Andrew Fenty (No. 20), 6-1, 6-4, on Tuesday in the second round of the NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Singles Championship. Fishback was set to team up with Jordan Chrysostom for the first round of doubles competition on Tuesday evening, but weather in the area has postponed their first match until Wednesday.

In singles, Fishback got behind early in the first set with a break by Fenty, followed by another one later in the set, allowing the Michigan man to take the first frame, 6-1. Bouncing back in the second set, Fishback exchanged breaks with his opponent. However, the junior could never get an advantage on Fenty, ultimately falling one match short of All-American status.

As of 9 p.m. on Tuesday, the time for Fishback and Chrysostom’s match with Cleeve Harper and Eliot Spizzirri (Texas) had not been set. Follow @HokiesMTennis and @NCAATennis on social media for the most up-to-date information.
