Ducks Take Down Redhawks for Second Win

EUGENE, Ore. – Getting five straight-set singles victories, Oregon finished its opening weekend of dual match action with a 6-1 victory over Seattle U Sunday at the Student Tennis Center.
 
The Ducks (2-0) jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead behind wins by the first and third doubles tandems. Freshman Jo-Yee Chan and junior Ares Teixido Garcia blanked Seattle’s Shuanghu Huang and Jade Quintana, 6-0, on court three. Sophie Luescher and Uxia Martinez Moral sealed the point with a 6-3 victory over Elena Kraleva and Liliya Domova.
 
The momentum continued to the singles side, as Nos. 3-6 each picked up straight-set wins to clinch the Ducks’ 12th straight win against the Redhawks.
 
Martinez Moral cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win against Quintana for the Ducks’ second point and the third came via Teixido Garcia’s 6-1, 6-3, triumph over Lola Tavcar. Both Martinez Moral and Teixido Garcia improved to 2-0 in singles play this season.
 
Chan, in her first collegiate action, earned the fourth and decisive point with her 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles against Mireia Fehr. Chan did not see action Friday but earned her first collegiate singles and doubles victories Sunday.
 
Misaki Kobayashi, playing at the sixth position, got by Huang 6-2, 6-0 and Luescher finished things with a straight-set victory at the top spot over Kraleva, 6-2, 7-6 (5). Each earned their first singles wins of the season after not completing their respective matches Friday against Portland State.
