CU Holds Tennis Alumni Weekend

BOULDER – The Alumni C-Club is holding the second ever CU Tennis Reunion Weekend, for both the men’s and women’s program on September 15-17 for alumni men and women who span competition years from 1956 – 2009 – over 50 years of CU Tennis.

The event was spearheaded by the Alumni C Club, Colorado’s athletic alumni association, and an alumni Committee lead by Tim Kullick, Sheila Ohlsson Walker and Former Assistant Coach Gary Horvath. “The Alumni Reunion committee worked tirelessly over the last six months to reach out to alumni all over the work to encourage them to come HOME to Boulder for their reunion,” said Alumni C Club Executive Director, Kimbirly Orr. “The collaboration with Head Coach Anthony Pham and others within the Athletic Department brought us to a fruitful event celebrating CU Tennis.”

In the first tennis reunion in 2021 there was only six attendees, but with the hard work of the Alumni C-Club specifically Kullick, Ohlsson Walker, and Orr the attendance is expected to be over 100 this weekend.

“It’s an exciting time to be at Colorado,” Pham said on the reunion. “There’s a lot of momentum not only with football, but all our fall sports. Alums are excited about coming back not only for tennis but for everything else. It is a tremendous honor for them to come back.”

The festivities begin with a Keynote and Luncheon on Friday headlined with Athletic Director Rick George, Alumni C Club Executive Director, Kimbirly Orr, and Dr. Jim Loher to speak to both the current team as well as the former players. The events on Friday are culminated with a happy hour at the end of the day to give the opportunity to make connections with past and present Buffs.

“Hopefully they’re able to make some good connections with a lot of these alumni and get to know them on a more personal level,” Pham hopes for the weekend. “I also want them to hear the alumni’s experiences when they were here, and how they have been successful because of their time here.”

Saturday begins with a hit around at the CU Tennis Complex to give a chance to hit the court with the 2023-24 Colorado Buffaloes before the football game later that night against Colorado State.

“I want to thank by Tim Kullick, Sheila Ohlsson Walker, Gary Horvath, and Kimbirly Orr,” Pham on the weekend. “There was a lot of hours and hard work that went into preparing for this…
