Crawley Wins In Singles Play, Both Doubles Teams Advance


ORLANDO, FLA. — After the second consecutive day of NCAA Singles and Doubles competition experiencing weather delays, Fiona Crawley and both sets of Tar Heel doubles pairs advanced to the round of 16 following Tuesday’s competition.

To begin the day, in singles play, Fiona Crawley advanced to the round of 16 after she defeated Irina Cantos Siemers of Ohio State, 6-4, 6-1.

Anika Yarlagadda and Carson Tanguilig dropped their second round matchups.

In the first round of doubles action, Fiona Crawley and Carson Tanguilig defeated the Georgia duo of Grant and Nirundorn, 6-4, 6-0 to move on to the second round. Following a multiple hour weather delay and having to move indoors, Reese Brantmeier and Elizabeth Scotty defeated the California Bear tandem of Alsola and Wiersholm, 6-1, 6-2 to advance to Wednesday’s second round.

The NCAA 2023 Singles and Doubles Championship takes place each day this week with the championship matches taking place on Saturday, May 27.
