ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference announced its annual postgraduate scholarship recipients on Monday, recognizing two student-athletes from each of the 18 Big Ten member institutions who plan to pursue graduate education. Each recipient will receive a $7,500 scholarship based primarily on academic achievement, leadership, and commitment to continuing their education.
Representing the University of Wisconsin are Taylor Cataldi of women’s tennis and Carolyn Shult of women’s track & field. Both student-athletes exemplified excellence in the classroom and in competition, while serving as standout leaders within their programs.
Cataldi, a key contributor on the court for Badger women’s tennis, balanced her athletic success with academic excellence while attending the University of Wisconsin Law School.
A graduate student at UW, Shult was a participant at the NCAA Cross Country Championships and earned All-Region honors in the Great Lakes Region. Shult was an USTFCCCA All-Academic Aaward recipient last fall for UW.
To be considered, student-athletes must have maintained at least a 3.2 GPA, shown leadership qualities, served as role models, and committed to pursuing a graduate degree. Each Big Ten school manages its own on-campus selection process.
The Big Ten Postgraduate Scholarship can be used for tuition, fees, room and board, course-related supplies, research, and other graduate-related expenses. Recipients must enroll in a full-time graduate program within three years of selection to retain the award.
