BERKELEY – The California men’s tennis team begins the 2024 dual-match season with a nonconference clash at Santa Clara on Saturday at noon PT.
Cal has a 26-0 record in the all-time series with Santa Clara, who fell to the Golden Bears, 5-2, in the teams’ most recent meeting in 2022 (see below).

Cal ended the Sherwood Collegiate Cup on a good note, earning eight victories – including seven over UCLA – on Monday at the Sherwood Country Club.
Cal senior Lucas Magnaudet defeated Texas A&M’s Kenner Taylor in singles, 7-5, 6-7(4), 10-5, but every other Bear win came at the Bruins’ expense.
In doubles, the Cal pair of Alex Chang and John Kim defeated UCLA’s Alexander Hoogmartens and Govind Nada, 7-6(8), while Ryder Jackson and Timofey Stepanov beat the Bruins’ Emon van Loben Sels and Spencer Johnson, 6-1.
Chang collected a good win in singles when he beat UCLA’s 121st-ranked Gianluca Balotta, 6-1, 6-0, Jackson claimed his second win of the day in a 6-0, 6-2 result over Giacomo Revelli, and Kim prevailed 6-4, 6-2 over Stefan Leustian. Cal’s Derrick Chen bested Aadarsh Tripathi, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, and Jonathan Irwanto beat van Loben Sels, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2.

The 43rd-ranked California Golden Bears defeated Santa Clara, 5-2, on March 11, 2022, at the Hellman Tennis Complex. Yuta Kikuchi clinched the win with a court-one singles victory.
The Bears won first in doubles, with the pair of Sean Hill and Philip Hjorth defeating Guillaume Dalmasso and Santiago Hinojosa, 6-2, on court two. But the Broncos won on court one and then clinched the doubles point when James Bell and Nick Cmager beat Alex Chang and Carl Emil Overbeck, 7-5, on court three.
