Bulldogs Begin ITA Southern Regional


BATON ROUGE, La. – The Mississippi State women’s tennis team began qualifying rounds at the ITA Southern Regional in Louisiana. 
 
Maddie Bemisderfer opened things in Baton Rouge on Thursday against Alabama’s Ansley Cheshire. Bemisderfer took the first set 6-4, but Cheshire came back to take the next two sets 6-4, 11-9. 
 
Maddie McKee, a senior playing in her second tournament of the fall, dropped a decision to Northwestern State’s Paige Wise 6-2, 6-4.
 
Freshman Sydney Hrehor battled Dariana Prato of Jacksonville State. Prato took the first set 7-5, but Hrehor bounced back to take the second set 7-5. Ultimately, Patro took the match in a super tiebreaker 10-4. 
 
In doubles, McKee and Hrehor kicked things off for the Bulldogs against the duo of Olivia Elliot and Andrea Widing of Troy. Elliot and Widing took the doubles match 8-4. 
 
“We had a tough day as far as wins and losses go, but we saw also saw some good things,” head coach Daryl Greenan said. “We just missed some opportunities and lost a couple very close matches. At this time of the year, we need these matches to build on.”
 
Emmanouela Antonaki – ranked 52nd in singles – along with Maria Rizzolo, Alessia Tagliente, Gia Cohen, Dharani Niroshan and Alexandra Mikhailuk are all part of the single main draw, with all receiving a first-round bye.
