Beck Moves on in Singles at ITA Nationals


SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Duke women’s tennis continued action in San Diego on Friday as senior Chloe Beck collected a single victory to move on at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Fall Championship.  

No. 5 Beck posted a 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over LSU’s Anastasiya Komar in the quarterfinals of the singles consolation bracket.  The Watkinsville, Ga., native will next take on No. 2 ranked Sarah Hamner of South Carolina in the semifinals on Saturday at the Barnes Tennis Center.

In doubles play, Beck and Cameron Morra had their run come to an end against top-seeded Savannah Broadus and Janice Tjen of Pepperdine with a 3-6, 4-6 loss in the quarterfinals.

Duke opened action in the NC State Invitational on Friday as well in Raleigh, N.C.  In the morning, the Blue Devils won two doubles and two singles matches against Georgia and Ole Miss.

Ellie Coleman defeated Rachel Krzyzak of Ole Miss, 7-5, 6-4, while Karolina Berankova registered a 6-4, 7-6 win over Reka Zadori of Ole Miss in singles.  Coleman and Berankova also collected a 7-6 (6) doubles win over Krzyzak/Zadori.  

Emma Jackson and Iuliia Bryzgalova teamed together to notch a 6-3 win over Anastasiia Lopata of Georgia and Ludmila Kareisova of Ole Miss in doubles.  In singles play, Jackson fell, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, to Kareisova and Bryzgalova dropped a 7-6 (4), 6-4 decision to Lapata.  

In the afternoon, Duke faced Wisconsin and collected two doubles and two singles victories.  

Duke’s Bryzgalova and Georgia Drummy defeated Alina Murkhortova and Xinyu Cai, 6-3, while Katie Codd and Brianna Shvets teamed to upend Taylor Cataldi/Anisha Apte, 6-2, in doubles.  

In singles action, Shvets totaled a 6-1, 6-3 win over Apte and Coleman won, 6-1, 7-6, against Cai.  Drummy dropped a 7-5, 6-3 match against Murkhortova and Codd fell, 6-3, 6-4, to Cataldi.

Duke will continue action Saturday in the NC State Invitational.
