Badgers continue hot streak in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Wisconsin women’s tennis team continued its hot start to the season with a dominant showing against Marquette in Milwaukee. The Badgers finished the day with a record of 2-1 in doubles and 4-1 in singles. The team also extended its winning streak against Marquette, making it seven straight wins against the Golden Eagles.
The duo of Maria Sholokhova and Ava Markham won their doubles match, 7-5, against Elisabeth Desmarais and Emilia Kojcic, while Taylor Cataldi and Charmaine Seah beat out Elizabeth Ferdman and Emma Davis by a score of 6-1.
On the singles side, Ava Markham, Taylor Cataldi, Xinyu Cai and Charmaine Seah all won their respective matches. No. 82 ranked Markham kept her undefeated singles record in her 6-1, 6-2 win on Thursday, giving her a singles record of 4-0 on the season.
“We always appreciate the opportunity to compete against Marquette,” said head coach Kelcy McKenna. “Our team pushed through some tough moments in doubles and found a way. Taylor Russo and I are really proud of the team’s resiliency today given the difficult conditions.”
The team travels to Auburn, Ala. on Saturday, Jan. 21 for a road doubleheader. Starting at noon (CT) the Badgers face North Carolina followed by Samford at 4 p.m. (CT).
