Alabama Women’s Tennis Drops Road Match against No. 12 Tennessee


KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Alabama women’s tennis program (9-6, 2-3 SEC) fell to No. 12 Tennessee (13-2, 6-0 SEC), 4-0, at the Goodfriend Tennis Center Sunday afternoon.

After winning the first doubles match on court three, 6-4, thanks to the effort of Ola Pitak and Kasia Pitak, the Crimson Tide would succumb back-to-back losses as the Lady Volunteers claimed the doubles point. From there, Tennessee would win three consecutive singles matches on courts one, six and five, respectively, to clinch the 4-0 victory.

Despite battling to three sets on court five, Anne Marie Hiser fell 3-6, 6-1, 3-6 as the loss clinched the match for Tennessee.

O. Pitak (6-2, 3-6, 2-1), on court two, also took her opponent to three sets, while Petra Sedlackova (5-7, 3-5) and Anna Parkhomenko (7-6 (6), 2-4) battled through a tough first set on courts three, and four, respectively. The three final courts were abandoned when the Vols secured the deciding point.

Match at No. 12 Tennessee

  • UA’s Pitak sisters defeated Tennessee’s Elza Tomase and Catherine Aulia, 6-4, on court three before the Lady Volunteers won the next two courts to secure the doubles point
  • Tennessee would win its first two singles courts in straight sets on courts one and six, respectively, to take a 3-0 lead
  • Hiser’s three-set loss on court five (6-3, 1-6, 6-3) clinched the match for the Vols
  • On court two, O. Pitak was leading No. 31 Rebeka Mertena (6-2, 3-6, 2-1) when the match was won
  • Sedlackova (5-7, 3-5) and Parkhomenko (7-6 (6), 2-4) were also competing on courts three and four, respectively, when their matches were abandoned
