Alabama Women’s Tennis Commence the 2023 Season at Home on Sunday


TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women’s tennis team opens the dual match season Sunday, hosting Navy at the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility. The Crimson Tide will face the Midshipmen for the first time in program history at 9 a.m. CT.

Admission to all Alabama home tennis matches is free.

Looking Back at the Fall

  • Then- No. 54 Petra Sedlackova made her second consecutive appearance in the singles semifinals round of the ITA Southern Championships
  • Sedlackova, Ola Pitak and Loudmilla Bencheikh represented the Tide at the ITA All- American Championships
  • Then- No. 25 doubles duo Anna Parkhomenko and Petra Sedlackova paced the team after advancing to the ITA Southern Regional semifinal rounds
  • At the team’s home tournament, the Roberta Alison Fall Classic, Ola Pitak was awarded champion of her singles draw as well as doubles with her sister Kasia Pitak as partner for their bracket

The Crimson Tide

  • Alabama made its 17th team appearance in the NCAA Tournament and 15th appearance under head coach Jenny Mainz 
  • Bencheikh and Sedlackova were also selected to compete in the NCAA Singles Championships
  • Last season Bencheikh and Sedlackova were recognized by the Southeastern Conference for their performance on the court as Bencheikh earned first-team conference honors and Sed-lackova earned second-team and all-freshman honors
  • Alabama returns eight players from last year’s team in Loudmila Bencheikh, Ansley Chesire, Anne Marie Hiser, Sydney Orefice, Anna Parkomenko, Kasia Pitak, Ola Pitak and Petra Sedlackova
  • Additionally, UA added two newcomers to its lineup in the fall, welcoming freshmen Rebeka Kern and Klara Milicevic
  • Sedlackova is coming into the spring season ranked nationally in singles at 75th

Scouting the Competition

  • Alabama hosts Navy as the Tide kicks off the dual match season at home
  • This is the first meeting between Alabama and Navy
  • Navy finished the year 22-6 overall
