Alabama Edges Ole Miss 4-3 in Home Victory


TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ––?Alabama women’s tennis team (9-4, 2-1 SEC) held off Ole Miss (7-5, 1-3 SEC) on Sunday to take a 4-3 victory over the Rebels at the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility.

The two teams tied twice in the match before Alabama found its deciding point off a three-set win from Ola Pitak on court three. Alabama opened the day with a 2-0 lead after winning the doubles point and securing a victory on court one from Loudmilla Bencheikh. After Ole Miss tied the match at 2-2 with wins on six and two, Anne Marie Hiser fought through a second-set tiebreaker to move UA out to match point, but a win by the Rebels on court four evened the match again at 3-3. Pitak would win 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 to clinch the win.

The Match

  • Alabama jumped out to an early lead after taking the win in doubles
  • Kasia Pitak and Ola Pitak captured the first win topping Lillian Gabrielsen and Kelsey Mize on court two but Ole Miss even the attempt for the opening point with a win on court three
  • Loudmilla Bencheikh and Anne Marie Hiser fought Annelle Leclercq-Fisher and Ludmila Kareisova for a 6-3 decision on court one to claim the doubles point for the Tide
  • Bencheikh followed with a quick 6-3, 6-2 victory over Leclercq-Fisher on court one to make it a 2-0 Alabama lead
  • The Rebels responded with a win on court six and two, respectively, to even the score at 2-2
  • Anne Marie Hiser took a 6-2 win in her opening set, before cruising through a second-set tiebreaker to take court five with a 7-6 (1) decision
  • Ole Miss would again tie the overall score with a three-set victory on court four
  • With the match tied at 3-3, Ola Pitak fought her way through a three-set battle on court three against Lillian Gabrielsen
  • Ola Pitak would win 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 for the deciding point
