Alabama Concludes Big 12/SEC Championships Strong


STILLWATER, Okla. –– Roan Jones and Matias Ponce De Leon closed the Big 12/SEC Challenge undefeated in doubles play after the duo recorded their third win of the weekend on Sunday. Additionally, both Jones and Ponce De Leon recorded singles to sweep the final day of the competition.

In addition to Jones and Ponce De Leon, Enzo Aguiard and Zach Foster battled through a tiebreaker to come out victorious in the doubles action.

The Competition

  • Jones and Ponce De Leon secured their third win of the tournament with an 8-1 victory over Oklahoma State’s Carl Roothman and Erik Schiessl
  • Foster and Aguiard fought through a 7-4 tiebreaker to take a doubles victory, the duo’s second of the weekend 
  • In singles play, Jones dropped just two games in the opening set as he topped Sebastian Abboud of Texas Tech 6-2, 6-4
  • Ponce De Leon won the opening set at 7-6 (3) but dropped set two 3-6 to force a third-set tiebreaker. The UA sophomore rallied to go 6-4 in the final round to win the match
