Florida Remains at No. 13 with Singles on the Rise

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida Women’s Tennis continues to see success in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings. The Gators have maintained its top-15 team ranking at No. 13, and three singles players are on the rise.

As of April 9, the Gators have an overall record of 14-7 and a 10-2 record in conference action. Florida has posted wins against several ranked opponents, with the most recent victories being against then-ranked No. 27 Vanderbilt (4-3) and No. 64 Kentucky (4-0).

Rachel Gailis who holds an impressive 21-6 singles record will enter the weekend as the No. 11 ranked collegiate player. Gailis currently holds a 5-2 record against nationally ranked players. The sophomore has defeated No. 83 Petra Sedlackova (Alabama), No. 29 Dasha Vidmanova (Georgia), No. 27 Sofia Cabezas (Tennessee) and No. 31 Carolina Gomez (Arkansas). Gailis also secured the biggest win of her career to date with a 6-2, 6-3 straight-set win over now-ranked No. 6 Carolyn Ansari (Auburn).

Sara Dahlstrom finds herself sitting at No. 65. Dahlstrom is now 5-1 in SEC play and has posted wins against nationally ranked No. 29 Mia Kupres (Texas A&M) and No. 25 Alexandra Vecic (Georgia).

Freshman Qavia Lopez moved up four spots to No. 115 with a 21-9 overall record and a 9-2 SEC record. Lopez’s most recent victories were against Amy Stevens (Vanderbilt) and Ellie Myers (Kentucky).

 

Florida senior Carly Briggs also moved up in the rankings to No. 80. Briggs holds a 7-2 SEC record and has posted four top-100 wins this season. Briggs is also on a five-match win streak entering the final week of regular season play.

In the doubles category, Malwina Rowinska and Alicia Dudeney remain in the top-50 for doubles at No. 45. The duo holds a 5-0 record since being paired up during SEC play. Rowinska and Dudeney have defeated three nationally ranked doubles pairs, No. 36 Morgan Cross/ Anet Koskel (Arkansas), No. 53 Inah Canete/ Mae Canete (Missouri), and No. 64 Ava Hrsatar/ Briana Crowley (Ole Miss). The slight dip in the duo’s rank (previously No. 30), comes after two unfinished matches.

NEXT UP:

The Gators’ next match will host their final home match before tournament action. No. 13 Florida will face No. 18 South Carolina on Saturday at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex. Doubles are set to start at 11 a.m. with singles to follow.
