Utah battles in 4-0 loss to Texas Tech

Box Score SAN DIEGO, Calif.  – The Utah men’s tennis team continued action this weekend and battled in a 4-0 loss to Texas Tech. 

In doubles, Texas Tech picked up a win in the No. 3 spot to start things off. In the No. 1 spot, Bruno Krenn and Geronimo Espin Busleiman were up a break but fell 6-4. Michael Blando and Jayson Blando were up 5-4 in the No. 2 spot before the doubles point was clinched in favor of the Red Raiders. 

In singles, the Red Raiders picked up wins at the No. 6 and No. 3 spots to take a 3-0 edge over the Utes in the overall match. 

In the No. 4 spot, Dylan Applegate battled through three sets as he dropped the first set 2-6 but won the second set 6-2. In his third set, Applegate had momentum but narrowly fell 6-4 to give Texas Tech the clinch point. 

In the No. 1 spot, Espin Busleiman won his first set 6-2 and dropped the second set 4-6. He was up 5-4 in the third set before the match was clinched. 

Krenn was also battling in his match in the No. 2 spot. He dropped his first set 4-6 but came back for a 6-4 win in the second set. Krenn was up 4-3 in the third set before it was left unfinished. 

In the No. 5 spot, Geremia Rossi was locked in as he also went into three sets. Ross dropped his first set 4-6 but won his second set 6-4. He was about to break at 3-1 before the match was called. 

UP NEXT

Utah will have one more match in the Ed Collins Classic Sunday March 17 before heading to Las Vegas to take on UNLV in the final non-conference match of the season. Utah will return home to start Pac-12 play March 29 against Washington.
