SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah women’s tennis program faced the Denver Pioneers on the road Friday afternoon, falling 4-0.

Utah struggled to gain traction in doubles. Sara Akid and Emma Kamper partnered up on the first court, but were unable to fend off Pioneer duo Andrea Beltran and Britt Pursell, falling 6-2. In the No. 2 spot Marcela Lopez and Samantha Horwood fought hard, but succumbed to the efforts of Caroline Driscoll and Louise Wikander, who defeated the two Utes 6-3. The remaining match was left unfinished.
Utah was unable to get things rolling in singles. Kat Lyman faced Driscoll on the fourth court, falling 6-1, 6-2. Next to finish was Lopez in the No. 1 spot, who was unable to hold off Beltran and lost 6-3, 6-2. Yuhan Liu battled on the No. 3 court, but fell to Wikander 6-3, 6-3 allowing the Pioneers the match victory.
The rest of the matches were left unfinished, however, Emma Kamper had forced her match against Alice Otis to a third set in the No. 5 spot.
UP NEXT
The Utes will next host Colorado State at home on Sunday, Feb. 18, before heading to Memphis for two matches against Minnesota and Memphis Feb. 24-25.
