DURHAM – Duke men’s tennis head coach Ramsey Smith announced Thursday the signing of Saahith Jayaraman to the class of 2028.
“Maciek [Sykut], Jay [Lapidus], and I are excited to welcome Saahith to our Duke Tennis family,” Smith said. “Saahith is a natural ball striker and gritty competitor who will be a tough out in college tennis.”
Jayaraman is a native of El Dorado Hills, Calf., and a Blue Chip prospect who currently holds a TennisRecruiting.net national ranking of No. 16. Additionally, he is listed as the No. 5 prospect from the southwest and the state of California, earning a career high TennisRPI national ranking of No. 5 in the fall of 2022.
“Embarking on my journey at Duke, I eagerly anticipate the fusion of academic excellence and the thrill of joining the tennis team – a dynamic duo propelling me toward personal and athletic growth,” Jayaraman said. “Without my parent’s sacrifices, I wouldn’t have this opportunity. Thank you to them, my siblings, and my coaches Jimmy [Roberts], Nick [Bezzubchenko], and Joe [Gilbert]. Duke has always been my dream school, and I am grateful for the opportunity to represent this wonderful program.”
Overall, Jayaraman has gone 27-12 in singles action, earning a fourth-place finish in the boys 16s National Championships in Kalamazoo, Mich., in August 2022. Additionally, he earned fifth place in the boys USTA 18s Winter National Championships in Orlando, Fla., at the beginning of the year.
“I love Saahith’s passion for the game and how meticulous he is about his development,” Smith added. “We feel Saahith’s game will take off in our environment, and it will be exciting to see him competing with a Duke D on his chest.”
