SAN DIEGO – On the final day of the SDSU Fall Classic, freshman Tilde Jagare completed an undefeated weekend in singles to highlight Sunday’s action at the Aztec Tennis Stadium on the campus of San Diego State.
After wins Friday and Saturday, Jagare finished with a 3-0 singles record at the event after a 6-0, 6-4 over SDSU’s Zoe Olmos. The singles victories marked the first collegiate wins for the freshman from Sweden.
Also winning Sunday were Jo-Yee Chan and Uxia Martinez Moral. Chan defeated conference rival Mila Stanojevic from Colorado in a three-set marathon, 7-6 (2), 4-6, 14-12 to finish the tournament 2-1. Martinez Moral won for the second straight day, also taking down a Buffalo in Betina Tokac, 6-4, 6-1.
Luescher played in the final of her singles bracket Sunday, but fell to Colorado’s Aya El Sayad, 6-2, 6-4. It marked just the second singles loss of the season for Luescher, who is now 8-2 during the fall campaign.
Karin Young also sought to post a 3-0 singles mark over the weekend, but dropped a tough three-setter to Colorado State’s Victoria Erechtchenko, 3-6, 6-1, 11-9. Young is 5-2 in singles play this fall.
The Ducks split six singles matches Sunday and finished the three-day event 12-6 on the singles side. On the fall season, UO is a combined 29-15 in singles action.
Luescher and Martinez Moral, the nation’s 56th-ranked doubles tandem, picked up their first win of the weekend with a 6-2 win over CU’s Carrington Hayes and Willow Gretsch.
