Cary, N.C. – Through two days of competition at the Fall Ranked Spotlight at Cary Tennis Park, the North Carolina women’s tennis team has seen multiple athletes advance in both singles and doubles play.
In the A1 Singles draw, Carson Tanguilig picked up two wins to advance to the third round. Tanguilig will now face the tournament’s top-ranked participant in Texas A&M’s Mary Stoiana on Saturday.
In her first tournament of the season, Abbey Forbes has recorded a 1-1 record while teammate Anika Yarlagadda has tallied a 2-1 record. On Saturday, Yarlagadda is set to face the No. 3 ranked participant in South Carolina’s Ayana Akli. Reese Brantmeier also picked up a first round victory.
In doubles play, both UNC doubles pairs picked up first round victories. Abbey Forbes and Anika Yarlagadda won their first round matchup 7-5 over a Buckeye duo, while Reese Brantmeier and Carson Tanguilig picked up a win over a South Carolina tandem.
In the second round of doubles play, Forbes and Yarlagadda picked up a 7-6 (4) victory while Brantmeier and Tanguilig fell in their match.
Both sets of doubles pairs will be back in action on Sunday.
In Milwaukee, Reilly Tran and Theadora Rabman are set to begin play today as a doubles pair. As of right now, the pair is scheduled to play around 3:00 p.m.
