EAST LANSING, MICH. – Four student-athletes from MSU’s Men’s Tennis were invited to compete at the prestigious Battle in the Bay and Milwaukee Tennis Classic events over the weekend, with the Battle of the Bay having gotten underway Thursday, Sept. 21 in San Francisco, California.
Sophomore Ozan Baris and grad-senior Ronald Hohmann III, who together won the Gamecock Ranked Main Draw Doubles title last weekend, began their search for their first singles titles of the fall at the Battle in the Bay on Thursday. Meanwhile, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, junior Max Sheldon and grad-senior Sebastien Collard will begin play Friday, Sept. 22, at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic.
Baris and Hohmann fell in the first round of the doubles main draw Thursday morning, 6-8 to the Arizona pairing of ITA No. 23 Colton Smith and No. 99 Herman Hoeyeraal. Hohmann however was able to bounce back with a 6-4, 6-4 singles win over the ITA’s third-ranked freshman, Aidan Kim of Florida. Baris will aim to get revenge on Hoeyeraal in the bottom half of the singles main draw bracket Thursday afternoon.
Back in the Midwest, Sheldon is coming off a seasoning opening 5-1 overall performance at the Wake Forest Duals in Winston Salem, North Carolina last weekend, Sept. 15-17. Collard was 2-1 in doubles to open the season and will look to build momentum on the singles side too starting Friday.
