Tennis Falls In SEC Tournament Opener

Mississippi State

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University of Missouri tennis saw its season ended Wednesday, following a 4-0 loss to Ole Miss in the opening round of the SEC Championships on Wednesday.

High winds moved the match to the Billingsley Tennis Center’s indoor courts. Thirteenth-seeded Mizzou (11-16) dropped its second decision this season and seventh in-a-row to 12th-seeded Rebels (10-12) who advanced to Thursday’s second round for the 10th straight season.

Ole Miss won the doubles point, a reverse of the two team’s matchup earlier in the season. Once again there was a key tiebreaker, this time in the No. 3 matchup. Ludmila Kareisova and Emma Kette used a 7-3 tiebreak win to seal the doubles point with a 7-6 victory over the gritty Mizzou duo of Romary Cardenas Rifka and Eleanor Fay.

The Rebels grabbed straight-set wins at No. 2, No. 5 and No. 6 to clinch the match.

The Tigers’ Mae Canete was up a set at No. 1 singles while Inah Canete (No. 3) and Andrea Artimedi (No. 4) were locked in second-set battles as all remaining singles matches went unfinished.
