STARKVILLE, Miss. – Ole Miss women’s tennis gets back on track with a 4-0 sweep over Mississippi State. The bottom of the singles lineup comes through again, including an Emma Kette ranked singles win.
The match started off right for Ole Miss (9-8, 3-6 SEC), taking the doubles point away from Mississippi State (10-10, 0-9 SEC). No surprise, Lillian Gabrielsen and Kelsey Mize won at No. 2 doubles, 7-5. The duo earned their 10th win of the season as a pairing.
A loss at No. 1 doubles did not hamper the Rebels as Emma Kette and Reka Zadori battled to give the team an advantage heading into singles play. Kette and Zadori won their doubles tiebreaker 8-6 to win the match 7-6.
Their momentum from doubles carried into singles. Kette rolled through No. 117 Maria Rizzolo in a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the fifth position. The win marks the freshman’s first career ranked singles win. Zadori followed right behind her teammate with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles.
Gabrielsen continued her singles tear, grabbing her third straight singles win to seal the match. The senior won in the third spot, 7-6 (2), 6-4, giving the Rebels the sweep.
The Rebels continue their road stretch with a match at College Station, Texas, against Texas A&M. The match is set for Friday, April 7, starting at 5 p.m. C.T.
