Badgers unlucky against the Irish

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The Wisconsin men’s tennis team’s road struggles continued at Notre Dame Saturday afternoon. The Badgers (5-4) fell to the Fighting Irish (6-3), 4-3.

The Fighting Irish got off to what they thought was a fast start, taking the No. 1 doubles match 6-2. They were not prepared for a gritty Badger team though that rallied and easily took the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.

Jason Hildebrandt and Jared Pratt started it off for Wisconsin, taking their match, 6-2, over Notre Dame’s Matt Halpin and Jean-Marc Malkows at No. 2 doubles. Sebastian Vile and Robin Parts were in the driver’s seat to decide the doubles point at No. 3 doubles, ultimately putting the Badgers up 1-0 with a 6-3 victory against Matt Che and Yu Zhang.

In singles, freshman Michael Minasyan was the first and only Badger to pull off their match. He won a quick two-set match 6-3, 7-5 over Jameson Corsillo at No. 6 singles to put Wisconsin up 2-1. The Irish were able to sweep the rest of the matches, taking home a 5-2 overall win.

Up Next: The Badgers are back at Nielsen for a Thursday night matchup, hosting in-state rival Marquette at 5:30 p.m.
