TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men’s tennis program (7-2) fell to No. 22 Northwestern (6-3) Sunday afternoon inside the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility.
Northwestern opened the match by clinching the doubles point on courts one and two, respectively. Alabama’s Filip Planinsek would give the Tide its first point of the day in singles play, beating Ivan Yatsuk, 6-0, 6-4, on court one. The Wildcats would go on to win courts five, three and four, respectively, to claim the match.
Match vs. No. 22 Northwestern
- Northwestern took the doubles point after Ivan Yatsuk and Simen Bratholm defeated Alabama’s Joao Ferreira and Planinsek on court one (6-3). Natan Spear and Trice Pickens would secure the point on court two after outlasting UA pair Enzo Aguiard and Yair Sarouk, 7-5.
- Planinsek opened singles play with a win over Northwestern’s Yatsuk (6-0, 6-4) on court one, tying the match at 1-1
- Gleb Blekher’s win on court five, 6-3, 6-1, over Alabama’s Sarouk gave the Wildcats their first singles point
- Northwestern’s Trice Pickens beat Roan Jones (6-3, 6-4) on court three to push the Wildcats out, 3-1
- Alabama’s Zach Foster won on court six (7-6 (5), 6-2) to move the Tide back within a point, 3-2, as two courts were still in play
- Presley Thieneman clinched the 4-2 victory for Northwestern after outlasting German Samofalov on court four, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2
- Aguiard was leading on court two (4-6, 6-4, 4-3) when the Wildcats claimed the victory
