Liz Norman – 5 Questions

Liz Norman - 5 Questions

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Redshirt senior Liz Norman transferred to Purdue this year to continue her athletic career for the women’s tennis team. Since joining the Boilermakers, she has secured a ranked doubles win and 11 singles wins. Purdue Athletics sat down with Norman to ask her five questions.

Q: Why did you choose to come to Purdue?

A: So I chose to come to Purdue mainly because of the team. The atmosphere here is amazing and the teammates here are just like my family. And obviously I’m from Terre Haute, Indiana so it’s about an hour and a half away from home so it’s not too far. I can go home and see my family. Also, the whole space program because I really want to work for NASA someday. So, definitely those three things led me to Purdue.

Q: What led you to want to work for NASA?

A: My dad took me to NASA before my junior year of high school and before that I would always read these Scholastic books of the Solar System. I always just loved space. So, my dad would take me to planetariums, observatories and stuff like that and so definitely after visiting NASA, I was like, “Okay, I’m going to do physics.” I’ve been doing that ever since.

Q:Who was your favorite tennis player growing up?

A: When I was younger, I idolized Maria Sharapova and then as I got older I got to see Roger Federer play at the Cincinnati tournament and ever since then it’s been Roger Federer. His elegance, his beauty, superb.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?

A: I would say meeting Lin-Manuel Miranda from Hamilton. I’ve always wanted to meet him and I have a crush on him so I definitely want to see him one day and meet him and talk to him.

Q: How excited are you for the season to start?

A: So excited! We got a little taste of it this fall in the hidden duels and just being able to play beside the people that I love and people that I know will compete and fight for everything is going to be an amazing experience and it’s my last year so I feel like ending it on a good note would be amazing.
