Meister Picks Up Three Wins in Fighting Irish Invite

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illinois men’s tennis Nic Meister gathered three wins in the Fighting Irish Invite from Oct. 28-30 hosted by Notre Dame.

The Notre Dame Invite was played in a mini dual format where athletes play each other in doubles, then play the same opponent in singles. 


DAY ONE

Meister and doubles partner Tyler Bowers played their first doubles match against Western Michigan’s Arjun Honnappa/Brogan Pierce, but lost, 6-1. 

Bowers then went on to defeat Pierce in singles, 6-2, 6-4, while Meister dropped his match to Honnappa, 6-4, 7-5. 

DAY TWO

The pair matched up with DePaul’s Leon Huck/Matteo Iaquinto, but lost the close match, 6-4. 

Meister then picked up his first win in a two set sweep, 7-5, 6-4, against Huck. Bowers battled hard in his singles match against Iaquinto, but ultimately lost,  6-3, 4-6, 1-0(2). 

DAY THREE

Meister and Bowers faced off with Indiana’s Luc Boulier/Andrew Meier on the final day, beating the Hoosiers in a tie break, 7-6 (5). 

Bowers went on to beat Meier, 6-2, 6-2, with Meister beating Boulier, 7-6(2), 6-2.

“This weekend had some tough matches mentally,” Meister said, “but I’m happy I was able to battle through and mostly finish on the winning side.”
