MALIBU, Calif. – Sophomore Alexander Hoogmartens of the UCLA men’s tennis team advanced Sunday to the ITA Southwest Regional Championships singles final round with a three-set win against Tim Zeitvogel of Pepperdine.
Hoogmartens, slotted at 23rd by the ITA in its preseason singles rankings, is set to play USC’s Peter Makk, ranked No. 41, in Monday’s championship match. First serve is set for 10 a.m. PT. Live video and scores from Pepperdine’s Ralphs Straus Tennis Center will be available HERE.
The 128-player field included seven Bruins, all of whom made the second round. Four reached the third round and three qualified for the round of 16, highlighted by Giacomo Revelli’s straight-set win against No. 44 Bradley Frye of USC.
In order to earn his semifinal-round spot, Hoogmartens beat No. 46 Gustaf Strom of Arizona in a straight-set decision Saturday.
In doubles play, the combination of Jeffrey Fradkin and Patrick Zahraj earned a couple wins before being edged out of a spot in the semifinals by No. 2 Frye and Stefan Dostanic of the Trojans.
