Cary, N.C. – Six members of the South Carolina men’s tennis team will travel to Cary, N.C., to play in the ITA Carolina Regionals this weekend. The tournament will begin on Fri., Oct. 21, and continue through Tues., Oct. 25, at the Cary Tennis Park. Participants from 23 schools across the Carolinas will take part in the Championships.
Jake Beasley, Carter Morgan, James Story, and Connor Thomson are all veterans of the tournament while freshman Lucas da Silva and sophomore Casey Hoole will each be making their first appearances.
The Gamecocks have a strong recent history at the Carolina Regionals. Paul Jubb became the first Gamecock to win a regional title since 1986 at the 2018 edition of the event. The 2019 event saw three Gamecocks in the quarterfinals, and at the 2021 Regionals, Thomson worked his way through five opponents to earn a spot in the semifinal match. (The 2020 event was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In 2019 South Carolina went 15-6 in the singles main draw at the regional championships and in 2021 they went 18-6.
The singles bracket will start with a Round of 128 players. Thomson is listed as the No. 3 seed and Story is No. 16. Hoole was given a 17-32 seeding. Singles play will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday.
The doubles bracket will begin with a draw of 64 pairs. The Gamecocks will be represented by Hoole and da Silva as well as Beasley and Story who are the No. 6 seed.
Draws and match times at the Carolina Regionals will be made available on the tournament webpage. Live stats and streaming will not be available, however the draws will be frequently updated.
